USAO’s Giving Day was started in 2016 in response to an overall decline in alumni participation that mirrored a trend seen across the higher education landscape. It was also an opportunity for the university, which has only one full-time development person on staff, to engage the entire campus community in the process of finding donors and raising funds.

Since implementing an annual Giving Day, the USAO Foundation has seen a 12% increase in the number of annual donations.

There are numerous reasons why USAO’s previous giving days have been so successful, but ultimately it is because they have allowed the university to engage with donors, alumni, and students where they spend much of their time today – on social media.

The past three years have shown that when more individuals spread the word about Giving Day to their social networks, forwarding emails from the USAO Foundation and sharing their own reasons for supporting the university, the more successful the outcome.

USAO’s fourth annual Giving Day will take place on Thursday, February 27, from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. With help from everyone in the USAO community—faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends—the USAO Foundation is hoping to raise over $100,000.
